LOVED IT!!! Sometimes it was hard to put down. Hard to believe it was the first book Karen wrote. Sounds like there will be another book to follow this one. If you ever have a book signing in Houston, Tx., please announce it the dates, it will be worth it! Charlotte
  • Not bad, for a first novel

Cleveland’s Need to Know is a page-turner. She knows how to tell a story that keeps the reader going, and that builds in appropriate surprises—nothing obvious here. Still, her main character, Vivian, is just too naive for a real CIA counterintelligence analyst working the Russia desk. That said, the novel rings true in many other ways, and the point of view is rare in spy fiction. We don’t see enough genuinely female protagonists. Vivian is definitely NOT some male author’s idea of a female spy. And that is definitely Cleveland’s achievement in the genre. I look forward to a sequel.

This is a story that grabs you almost immediately. From that point on, it’s a roller coaster of heart-stopping, hold-your-breath emotion, danger and what happens next. Viv is a CIA analyst on the Russia desk. How far would you go to protect your family? You won’t see it coming, believe me. A great read.

Need I say more, very disappointed at what I thought were credible endorsements from reputable authors.

I bought and read this book, because John Grisham recommended it, but his last book was awful. This book was weak on story and plot, and the characters were NOT like able at all.
  • Transparent and lightweight

Very little rings true in this spy story. From the inept case worker to the undercover spy dad. Hard to believe the entire CIA and FBI are completely blind to their own inner workings.

What could/should have been an interesting puzzle never materialized. Too facile, shallow and predictable. I just didn't enjoy it very much. Hate that I spent $14 for this but perhaps this author can give us another story with more fully developed characters and a less obvious ending.
